Hearing Conservation

The purpose of Behavior Safety Associates Noise Awareness and Hearing Conservation Policy and Procedures is to protect the hearing of all employees exposed to high noise levels. Exposure to high noise levels for extended periods can cause temporary or permanent hearing loss and other associated health problems. The safety and health professionals at Behavior Safety Associates, LLC are committed to preventing work-related hearing loss through this hearing conservation program.

Our written program establishes and administers a continuing, effective hearing conservation program whenever employee noise exposures equal or exceed an 8-hour time-weighted average sound level (TWA) of 85 decibels on the A scale (dBA), as mandated by the Federal OSHA Noise Standard [29 CFR 1910.95] including requirements for employee training. Behavior Safety Associates, LLC strives to reduce excessive work related noise exposure wherever reasonably possible through:

  • Engineering controls when feasible
  • Reduction of worker exposure time by administrative controls
  • Protective controls, including use of protective hearing devices and periodic monitoring of the employees' hearing status

Employees can suffer hearing loss from noise outside the working establishment as well as from noise at work. The effectiveness of a hearing conservation program depends on management's ability to convey to employees the dangers of excessive noise exposure. Behavior Safety Associates, LLC will educate employees in protecting their hearing away from work as well as when they are at work.
